OVERVIEW

The Maintenance Mechanic installs, maintains, repairs and troubleshoots all industrial equipment within the refinery using standard mechanical tools associated with tasks.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must have a general knowledge of estimating time and materials for jobs, metals and the quality and machinability and uses of metals, alloys and other materials, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance, design techniques, tools and principals involved in the production of precision technical plans and drawings.
  • Ability to fabricate components to specifications with a high degree of precision using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and specialized variation tools to perform precision machining operations. Set up or operate metalworking, brazing, heat-treating, welding, or cutting equipment.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools such as Micrometers, Calipers (Vernier, Hand or spring), Gages (Depth, Go/No-Go, Feeler, etc...). Also, experience in servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices and equipment.
  • Must be able to inspect sample parts, read and interpret schematics and blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances. The ability to prepare working sketches for the illustration of product appearance.
  • Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, layout, and machining procedures. Support maintenance projects through assembly, inspection, and testing, using knowledge of machine functions and metal properties.
  • Must be a team player with obvious enthusiasm, initiative, and pride in work well done, and self-starters dedicated to continual quality improvement. Must have the willingness to work with other crafts (Electricians, Mechanics & Pipefitters) to assist in the maintenance of the facility and production equipment. Must be able to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to provide guidance on technical systems or process-related topics.
  • Must possess the ability to troubleshoot, rebuild, install and align pumps with different seal assemblies. (Mechanical or Packing Seals) Dismantle machines and remove parts for repair, using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes, or hoists.
  • Must read work orders and interprets equipment manuals and specifications to determine machines. Record repairs and maintenance performed. Record parts or materials used and requisition new parts or materials as necessary.
  • Must maintain a clean and orderly work area and shop at all times. Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
  • Dispose of scrap or waste material in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.Separate scrap waste and related materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Installs, maintains, repairs and troubleshoots all industrial equipment within the refinery such as pumps, valves, conveyors, screw conveyors, drives, conveyor elevators, centrifugals, and other closely aligned mechanical devices using equipment such as cutters, dies, heating torch, welding, brazing, drill motors, wrenches, hoists etc.
  • Works in a safe manner following all refinery safety requirements

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform complicated maintenance and repairs to mechanical and closely allied electrical equipment.
  • Ability to repair and replace pumps, valves, conveyors, drives and other mechanical equipment within an industrial setting.
  • Understands and interpret blueprints, sketches, schematic drawings and instruction sheets.
  • Ability to perform all jobs in accordance with established safety practices and sanitation standards.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in maintenance or in a mechanical position in an industrial or related setting.
  • Overtime and weekends are mandatory on an as needed basis.
  • Must possess a basic toolkit set. (Hammers, screwdrivers, socket wrenches, etc.

    Required Education
