Job Description Summary
The Job Readiness Coach is responsible for administering Onondaga County’s welfare-to-work program through a contract between the Onondaga County and Onondaga Community College. The Job Readiness Coach provides intake, assessment, case management, job readiness/job search preparation, and/or post-employment follow-up services to mandated public assistance recipients. The Job Readiness Coach utilizes a variety of tools and programming to support participants on their paths to employment and self-sufficiency.
Client Assessment – review educational and employment history; review and assess results of standardized tests; identify specific training needs. Work with job seekers (individually and in groups) to develop employability plans; assign to appropriate combination of work and study activities; or refer for conciliation or appropriate rehabilitative and/or medical intervention. Job Readiness Training – develop and implement group and individual activities dealing with such topics as life skills, soft skills, job searching and resume writing, and job coping skills. Case Management – monitor job seeker participation and progress, set up support services, and provide conciliation and/or remedial intervention and follow-up. Work Experience/Job Search – facilitate career planning and exploration process; provide structured and individualized work experience and job placement activities; track client employment outcomes. Work with local employers to foster relationships and create prospective work opportunities and job placements.
Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience, preferably in sociology, psychology, social work, human resources, business, or labor/industry relations.
One year professional level experience providing direct service to educationally and/or economically disadvantaged individuals in at least two of the areas mentioned above; OR, two years professional level experience in human services, business or human resources.

• Experience working with diverse populations including those who are educationally and economically disadvantaged • The ability to engage and coach adults to achieve goals • The ability to manage and prioritize one’s own day to day work requirements in a fast paced environment • The ability to communicate effectively and appropriately while maintaining positive relationships with clients and colleagues • Excellent writing and communication skills • The ability to use independent judgment, critical thinking, and active listening to identify complex problems, evaluate options, and implement solutions
