EAG INC Instrument Service Engineer in Syracuse, New York
EAG Laboratories is looking for an Instrument Service Engineer to be responsible for repair and maintenance of analytical instruments and ancillary equipment. The position will primarily support the instruments in the Syracuse lab. The Instrument Service Engineer performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, service and repair of analytical instrumentation to ensure uptime performance on revenue generating equipment. Monitor and report on activities and provide relevant production information to management.Day to Day Responsibilities:Support troubleshooting, updating and enhancing existing instrumentsUnderstand and implement both hardware and software components for measurements and controls systemsProvide support and implement and assist in the design of custom software that support the analytical instruments and the data reduction performed by analysts. Efficiently, test, diagnose and repair equipment to the component level during scheduled and unscheduled down time.Design, fabricate, install and test commercial and non-commercial up-grades to analytical instruments.Maintain facilities support equipment, water chillers, gas supply, pumping stations, etc.Coordinate service activities with analytical service staff to minimize impact on revenue generation.Maintain spare parts inventory and instrument documentation.Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutionsProtects confidential information and proprietary processesHandles customer materials and company equipment in a responsible and efficient manner.Desired Skills: Basic project management skills (e.g. scoping, budgeting, timelines etc.) Equipment engineering, process support and debugging software Experience in an object-oriented software development, ideally C++ or C# Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. Experience in SQL development, including stored procedures and triggers. Must have working knowledge in High Vacuum and High Voltage Technology. A solid grounding in Computer Science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design and systems architecture. Repair, evaluate or optimize new or existing vacuum equipment as well as to develop and design vacuum components. Excellent written communication skills. Must be a proficient communicator and listener. Should have the ability to read and understand analytical protocols, instrumental operational manuals and technical information as it relates to the analytical services. Able to work with minimal supervision. Able to work individually and as part of a team. Needs to have excellent relationship-building skills. Interface with equipment and parts suppliers and equipment repair vendors.Working environment requires at times a Flexible Work Schedule and ability to be on call for emergencies. Provides technical direction to support staff, technicians and less experienced analysts. Ability to define and solve practical problems, present solutions, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
