Engine Heavy Maintenance Engineer

Position Summary

The Engine Heavy Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the JetBlue Engine Heavy Maintenance Program and liaising between JetBlue Airways and engine shops / MROs contracted to perform engine shop/overhaul maintenance for JetBlue Airways.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Acts as technical / financial liaison between JetBlue and vendors contracted to perform maintenance and overhaul on JetBlue engine fleet.

  • Administer contracts between JetBlue and MROs for repair work performed on JetBlue engines, or components as required

  • Provide on-site liaison between JetBlue and assigned repair agencies regarding all technical matters, delivery schedules, invoice discrepancies, warranty claims and disposition of JetBlue owned materials

  • Monitor work-in-progress to ensure that all vendor workmanship is of acceptable quality and that all work is accomplished in accordance with the specified work scope, in compliance with applicable specifications

  • Keep accurate records of discrepancies in sufficient detail to support request for procedural changes and claims for adjustment of charges

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the maintenance agreements with assigned agencies and audit all invoices to ensure that billing is correct and in accordance with applicable terms and conditions Maintain an informed status of new developments in repair procedures and preventative actions to preclude maintenance problems

  • Recommend changes to the maintenance programs and work specifications based on experience with conditions found in JetBlue equipment undergoing major maintenance

  • Work Coordinate with the Engineering Department to ensure that required technical information is provided on time and provide feedback regarding conditions found during the course of work accomplished

  • Apprise the Director of Engineering of any issues that may affect safety, quality, cost, or schedule of JetBlue engines or components while in vendor maintenance

  • Authorize changes in the work scope as dictated by changing conditions during maintenance and communicate proposed changes to the Director of Engineering

  • Perform root-cause analysis of significant aircraft discrepant conditions either present on arrival of aircraft or resulting from work performed during maintenance

  • Forecast and maintain the engine budget

  • Report on engine shop visit status, performance & quality

  • Participate / lead process improvement opportunities as available

  • Assist the Director Engineering in formulating the annual department budget

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Experience and Qualifications

  • High School or General Educational Diploma

  • Five (5) years of engine maintenance experience

  • Valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Certificate

  • Experience with IAE V2500 & GE CF-34-10 Engines

  • Familiar with Federal Aviation Regulations governing aircraft and engine certification

  • Working knowledge of engine overhaul / shop visit management

  • Experience with troubleshooting aircraft powerplant and system problems

  • Ability to interact with internal/external customers and leadership in various departments

  • Available for overnight travel (up to 60%)

  • Currently in possession of a valid passport or equivalent travel documents to freely enter & exit all destinations where JetBlue flies.

  • Pass a ten (10) year background check, pre-employment drug test

  • Legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located

  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

  • Computer literate with Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Project

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical abilities

  • Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner

  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills

  • Ability to multi task and work under pressure in a dynamic environment

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice

  • Well-groomed and able to maintain a professional appearance

  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System

  • Identify safety concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report(SAR))

  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls

  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities
