As a reflection of our current needs and planned growth, we are very pleased to offer an opportunity to join our growing Human Resources team as the Director, Compensation and Benefits. This position is responsible for the strategy, research, design, and overall management of Aspen Dental’s total reward policies and programs (base salary, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, market pricing, and benefits), as well as the associated training, communication, and technology enablers. The Director, Compensation and Benefits is expected to maximize total reward value while responsibly managing the company’s investment in the associated programs. Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources Operations, this functional leader will interface with operating executives and human resource business partners in support of the company’s continued growth strategy, business objectives, and talent acquisition and retention goals.
In this position, the ideal candidate will play a key role in the design, implementation, and advancement of a contemporary employee value proposition. As part of the team that shapes the future direction of total rewards at Aspen Dental, this role provides the unique opportunity to participate in setting the strategic direction while simultaneously working hands on to design and manage core policies, programs, and processes.
Monitor the internal equity and external competitiveness of the company’s total reward practices through ongoing evaluation of business conditions, legal requirements, economic impact and competitive practices. Ensure programs are market-competitive and aligned with business and people strategies.
Create and articulate a total reward philosophy that aligns with Aspen Dental’s values and mission.
Plan, implement, and manage all total reward programs and initiatives. Oversee plans, policies, and processes, including administration, communication, and training enablers.
Develop, maintain, and communicate an effective total rewards framework strategically aligned with and in support of Aspen Dental’s performance-based culture.
Develop and manage a contemporary and company-relevant market pricing process, to include alignment of appropriate external benchmark surveys to internal positions and enablers to support readily available comparative analysis.
Develop, deploy, and manage market-based compensation structures for field operations and support functions, to include standard job descriptions, ranges, level guide charts, and geographic area differentials.
Partner with the recruiting team to develop competitive offers for new hires and existing employees; rooted in market data and aligned with the company’s total rewards philosophy.
Work with HR business partners to advise and influence business leaders in total reward strategy, programs, process, and ad hoc actions.
Manage relationships with third party vendors and external consultants, including sourcing partners, negotiating contracts, and managing service level agreements.
Handle total reward needs associated with future growth/acquisitions, including assessing compensation and benefits plans and transition needs, and performing due diligence around practices of targeted acquisitions.
Partner with the Head of HR Operations, Finance, and external resources on total reward planning to ensure adequate forecasts and calculations of expenditures for budgeting, reporting, and other analytics. Develop proposals to determine offerings based on budget, employee surveys, and other relevant data.
Ensure total reward plans and processes comply with current federal and state regulations and requirements, including reporting, required disclosures, and testing.
Maintain summary plan descriptions for benefits plans and programs, ensuring plan documentation is up-to-date and readily available.
Develop and manage a staff of highly skilled and motivated associates focused on the delivery of quality, value-added services and effectively allocate responsibilities and work processes across the function.
Ensure the tools (HRIS and external service providers) are in place to effectively manage total reward planning and administration, including enablers to drive informational and transactional self-service.
A minimum of ten years of increasingly responsible experience in and comprehensive knowledge of total rewards, including a minimum of five years managing teams and vendor relationships. Additional experience in finance or compensation/benefits consulting would be preferred but not required.
BS or BA degree with concentration in business management, finance, accounting, human resources or related field.
Experience selecting and managing external consulting relationships.
Experience managing compliance and regulatory requirements.
Experience sourcing and managing salary benchmarking surveys, including job matching, survey submissions, comparative reviews, and payline analyses.
Proven capable of working with a dispersed, customer facing workforce (retail, hospitality, consumer/healthcare services).
A data-driven mindset and strong demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills – ability to influence, drive decisions and lead discussions utilizing data.
An understanding of market dynamics, industry trends, and best practices.
Excellent organization, prioritization and customer service skills to effectively follow-up on complex and detailed work activities.
Experience thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-oriented environment, with the ability to navigate complex issues while maintaining attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience in project management and process improvement methods.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
High-level of proficiency in MS Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
