SUMMARY: The HR Generalist/Employee Relations Specialist manages the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s relationships with its employees. They oversee this relationship from the hiring process to the exit process. They assist Tribal employees in resolving disputes between managers/supervisors and employees. Develop and/or assist training plans for all Tribal staff in areas of health and safety, harassment, and Tribal policies affecting staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create, implement and manage the employee complaint, appeal and grievance process.
Advise employees on matters related to the administration of employee discipline or grievance procedures. Be available to inform employees of the proper process for complaint, appeal or grievances in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
Meet with managers/supervisors to discuss employee relations matters, such as working conditions/working environment, appeals, grievances and complaints. Work towards a timely resolution to issues.
Assist in investigations as needed and evaluate complaints or appeals to determine accuracy, consistency and validity.
Work collaboratively with managers and employees in attempt to reconcile differences.
Prepare reports or presentations regarding employee satisfaction or on-going appeals to the Human Resources Director.
Review employee disciplinary actions, such as written warnings, suspensions, or terminations.
Ensure compliance with Employee Handbook and track all disciplinary records.
Follow-up with managers upon approaching deadlines.
Review employer practices or employee data to ensure compliance on matters such as wages, hours, or conditions of employment.
Track, manage and monitor the Unemployment Insurance Rates for the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe.
Schedule, coordinate and attend Unemployment Grievances when necessary.
Conduct training with Managers and Supervisor to assist in education of proper documentation to mitigate risks associated with Unemployment Insurance.
Develop, track, monitor employee satisfaction with policies or working conditions through a system that will enhance the overall effectiveness of the organization, to include grievance or complaint procedures.
Attend meetings at the request of supervisors and/or employees to be the neutral third party to the conduct of the meeting.
Develop and present training for managers and supervisors on topics related to labor relations, such as working conditions or harassment.
Develop and conduct employee orientation program always looking at ways to improve the content and quality.
Coordinate with Division Directors and Program Managers training needs for departments and assist when needed.
Administer and record Drug Testing and Breathalyzer testing when needed.
Coordination with Programs to ensure compliance with the Davis Bacon Wage Act when required.
Protect privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associates Degree in a related field and 3 years Human Resources experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Consideration will be given to an equivalent, relevant combination of education/experience in the Human Resource, employee relations or benefits field. Senior Professional in Human Resource (SPHR) and/or Tribal Human Resource Professional certification is an asset. Upon hire, must work toward and obtain both, or equivalent certifications.
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
COMPUTER: Must have excellent computer skills to prepare documents regarding staff relations issues, track incidents through use of database or spreadsheets, prepare materials for presentation to Tribal Management and presentation skills for training employees.
ORGANIZATION: Must have excellent organizational skills to schedule training events, coordinating speakers and attendees in an efficient manner.
ABILITIES: The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience so others will understand. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
COMPREHENSION: Ability to listen and to understand information that is being presented. The ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions. Strong consultancy (negotiation and influencing skills, ability to influence and drive positive change).
PUBLIC SPEAKING: Public speaking is a requirement for this position.
