Responsible for evaluating and treating cardiopulmonary health; teach patients and their families about treatment and maintenance of pulmonary health problems, including use of respiratory therapy equipment and medications; run tests to identify such things as arterial blood gases, lung volume, pulmonary infection, etc.;set up and monitor therapeutic gases and environmental control systems; initiate and support a breathing apparatus; insert and maintain an artificial airway; administer medications needed for respiratory care and other duties as assigned.
Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy from a Respiratory Therapy education program accredited by CoARC required. New York State Respiratory Therapy Technician or Respiratory Therapist license required. Minimum of 3 years experience required. Basic computer skills required.
BLS/ACLS/PALS training required and accepted from only 2 organizations:
American Heart Association-BLS/ACLS/PALS for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program
American Red Cross - CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
No online programs from any organization will be accepted.
