General Purpose:

Performs professional accounting work with responsibility in reconciliation, financial reporting, cost analysis and assist with the development of audit processes of real estate liabilities presently exceeding $34 million annually. Assist in the development of departmental budgets to ensure proper URMC budgeting of the real estate liabilities.


Under general direction and with latitude to exercise independent judgment:

Professional Accounting

Performs analyses and tests necessary to ascertain integrity of accounting data, account balances and timeliness of reporting. Analyzes and interpret data and proposes changes of the accounting treatment of financial transactions impacting departmental ledgers of the Medical Center. Initiates appropriate corrective action and ensures follow through.

Assists the Sr. Financial Analyst to design financial reports and statements for University management reflecting fiscal operations of specific programs (e.g. operational costs, cash forecasts and comparable information). Conducts perpetual reconciliations of general ledger accounts for department and verifies audited adjustments.

Reviews financial data being processed through accounting systems in order to isolate problem areas (requiring knowledge of real estate data being processed and specific computer programs). Initiates corrective action or recommends solutions as appropriate. Ensures adherence to policies and procedures for accounting systems and financial reporting as they pertain to lease accounting systems (e.g. monthly reconciliations with the $25 million lease database). Recommends improvements, adaptation, and changes to systems.

Assists with the development of departmental renovation budgets with Project Managers (approximately $15 million per year). Regularly interacts with department leaders (i.e. Program Administrator level and divisional CFO’s) to provide guidance and understanding with accounting principles, policies, regulations, and other unique criteria.

Assists with the preparation of reports for submission to the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency and to ensure approximately $3 million annually in tax incentives for the institution are captured and properly recorded.

Lease Agreement

Gathers and compiles lease data; analyzes and prepares analysis reports. Ensures accurate tracking of allocation of rental charges and other related building expenses for numerous ledgers to ensure accurate pro-rata distributions based on occupancy. Makes recommendations and may initiate corrective action. Assists Sr. Accountant with special reports tailored to informational needs of University officers (i.e. current or projected status of funds).

Perpetually audits annual common area charges for approximately 150 off-site leases. Analyzes charges for consistency with lease agreements. Collaborates with RES team to resolves issues (i.e. overcharges for snow plowing, etc.). Must be able to read and understand lease agreement language, as well as the unique differences that exist for the various locations.


Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and at least one year professional accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer 2+ years of relevant experience in a health care and/or real estate field.
