Network Engineer I
Job Description
This Network Engineer position will be part of a Network Provisioning team. This team is responsible for network provisioning of new customer service on the National ATM/DSL Network. This position interacts with regional engineers, shared services and local field personnel on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for tracking software revisions
- Track and implement network wide system upgrades and updates
- Turn-up new hardware/software - provision new circuits (T1, DS3, OC3, OC12, GigE)
Work closely with customers to assist in turn-up of service or repairs
Required Skills and Competencies
Troubleshooting skills are a necessity
- Ability to work with end customers and/or field technicians
- Need to be able to troubleshoot over the phone
- Ability to provide directions to field technicians
- Must be able to work in a team environment
- Written, oral and presentation skills are critical to the position
Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time
Experience
Minimum 2+ years experience in data environment
- Must have an extensive background in the use of Lucent Naviscore Management System
- Must have extensive experience in the planning and the implementation of VP/VC schemes
- Must have extensive knowledge of and practical experience in the use of ATM, Frame Relay, DSL technologies, and their related network designs
- Applicant should have experience in the provisioning and support of Voice related services such as Voice Mail, Operator Services, and directory assistance over an ATM network
- Scripting/Programming skills are a plus
- Should have experience in provisioning and troubleshooting the following equipment types: Lucent PSAX (1000, 1250, 2300, 4500) Lucent CBX 500, GX550 Ciena DN7100 DSLAM equipment (Adtran, Alcatel, Calix, Litespan, Catena
