General Description

Under general supervision, provides evaluation and treatment of alcohol and substance abusing clients. Maintains confidentiality and ethical standards as identified by the NYS Education Department, NASW or other relevant governing bodies.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements all therapeutic recreation components.

  • Provides classroom instruction in leisure education and stress management.

  • Provides activities related to physical fitness and recreational outings.

  • Maintains written records of goals and progress.

  • Tracks expenses and submits for payment

  • Assists residents in the development of individual leisure and vocational educational goals as needed.

  • Documents and monitors progress.

  • Supports Development and implementation of a curriculum to train clients in employability skills.

  • Coordinates with other vocational staff to integrate vocational component and utilize vocational/employment curriculum.

  • Provides interview and job readiness education.

  • Provides residents with stress and coping skills.

  • Develops job experience or job shadow opportunity for client.

  • Makes contact and develops job experience locations based on resident education or interest.

  • Places the resident on job site monitors progress.

  • Completes progress notes and other documentation regarding resident vocational status and progress.

  • Maintains any necessary data for the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse.

  • Oversees the Life Skills educational component of program.

  • Develop, implement and supervise life skills curriculum.

  • Incorporate curriculum into program schedule to be presented by Residential Counselors.

  • Participates in relevant Agency meeting and ongoing development of professional knowledge and skills.

  • Attends program and departmental meetings and CFC quarterly meetings.

  • Develops skills through involvement in Agency in-service training, conference attendance and supervision sessions.

  • Coordinates recreational activities and individual leisure goals with appropriate team members.

  • Maintains up-to-date professional knowledge through reading, workshops, and conferences.

  • Awareness of and active support of the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan. Including, but not limited to, supporting the Agency's Core Competency initiatives of being Collaborative and Community Focused, Innovative and Entrepreneurial, and Culturally Competent and Diverse.

  • Other responsibilities as requested by supervisor.



Education:Bachelor's Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling or related field preferred. Equivalent Combination of education and experience will be considered.

Credentials:Valid and clean NYS Driver's License. Minimum CASAC-T required, QHP credential preferred -CASAC, LMSW, LCSW, NCCC, LMHC, CRC, RN, or PhD.

Experience:Two years of clinical experience working in substance abuse and/or mental health services.
