Supervise Electrical Shop personnel in two Hicksville Buildings to complete electrical equipment testing on substation and distribution class equipment. Maintain Substation Spare equipment in Hicksville Yard. Complete degassifer operations in the field. Develop equipment acceptance test schedules, manage union employees.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Responsible for the supervision, performance, and safety of all personnel engaged in the overhaul, repair, and acceptance testing of all types of high voltage electrical substation, transmission, and distribution equipment processed through the Electrical Section’s Shop.

  • Evaluate subordinate personnel and Shop’s tools, materials, methods, and safety. Responsible for the administration of Company, Department and Division policies pertaining to accident prevention,

  • vacation requests, sick leave, suggestions, training and personnel development.

  • Prepares reports, schedules, work hour and cost estimates for work conducted by the Electrical Section.

  • Teach employees new policies, procedures, and processes; train them to use new equipment, materials, and techniques.

  • Complete Union employee evaluations.

  • Act as system stand-by supervisor on scheduled basis.

  • Note: Employees selected for this classification will be required to participate in federally mandated drug testing programs prior to selection, randomly on a year-round basis, after an accident and for reasonable cause.

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • BS Engineering Degree required with minimum 5 years experience or 10 years of extensive experience in construction, maintenance, trouble shooting, testing and repair of substation, transmission, and distribution electrical equipment.

  • General knowledge in reprocessing of insulating oil and reclamation of electrical system equipment.

  • Experience in the use and interpretation results using sophisticated electrical test instrumentation. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams. General knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution system and its related equipment.

  • Be able to exercise good judgment in carrying out company policies and objectives. Have administrative and technical skills and the ability to work with others at various supervisory and management levels.

  • Experience in reading and interpreting schematic and wiring diagrams required.

  • Demonstrable leadership skills, as well as, the ability to plan, organize and control field operations are necessary.

  • Excellent communication skills are essential.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. This position requires a SAFE DRIVING RECORD that may require the use of a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursed in accordance with the PSEG Long Island expense policy.

  • Travel to various Company locations throughout the Long Island territory may be requested as needed.
